Magnolia

I took this picture about a month ago when the Magnolia buds were blooming. Usually you don’t find them this big around here.

I was sitting in my recliner playing with my camera when I took this picture.
Would you believe these shoes are about thirty years old?

This is a picture of the inside of my garage. Yes, it needs some attention, too.

Red Wheelbarrow

I am running out of pictures so I just took the easy way out and took this picture of my storage shed. Yes, it needs some attention.

This is a close up shot of small flowers. I used my telephoto zoom lens to capture this picture.

Dinner Bell

This bell was used to call the men in from the field for dinner. Dinner was the meal that you ate around noon and supper was served around 6pm.

This is T. J. the horse – I asked him to be still and let me take the picture and he gave me a nice profile pose.

Fat Goat

We took a trip to my son’s house and captured a picture of this fat goat. They use goats to keep the underbrush cleared out around the trees.

Gas Stove

This is a Tappan Gas Stove – back in the old days if you had one of these you were somebody. My mother did not have one.

Bowl & Pitcher

People used this to take a bird bath back in the thirties and forties. I am sure there is a different name for it - but I can’t think of it.

No AC Required

This is an old antique ice box. You put a block of ice in the top and the drain was in the bottom. If you had one of these you must be my age.

THE KING LIVES

With the death of Elvis Presley marking its 30th anniversary Aug. 16, some say the King still lives. Don’t know about that but you can get a picture of Elvis when he was in the Army from our antique dealers in Selma.

Photos from the Past 5

My wife came up with a great idea, a four block run for the children. As you can see from this picture taken in 1982 the Caboose run was a great success. Over the years this run was cancelled due to lack of participants.

Photos from the Past 4

This picture was taken in 1981 – the finish line for the 10K Selma Railroad Run.

Photos from the Past 3

Selma will have it’s 30th annual Railroad Run this October. It is hard to believe that we are still having this run after all these years. I started the run and was the race director for ten years. After all the kids in the neighborhood grew up and moved out I was short of help and turned it over to the recreation department.
This is a picture of the start of the 1981 10K run. Those were the days; wish I could run today. But I am going to sign up for the 5K walk this year. Wish me luck.

Children get a ride on the old fire truck. This picture was taken in 1978, Selma Railroad Days.

Photos from the Past 1

I ran out of current photos and it is just to hot for me to get out and take some. So I went back in my archive files and pulled out a few photos that I hope will be interesting. This picture was taken in 1978. Selma had a Railroad Museum back in those days. The units in the windows are window fans, not air conditioners

West Anderson Street.

Selma is known as “The New Antique Center of the South”. Most of the buildings in uptown Selma are occupied by antique dealers. You can see by the flowers in this picture that our merchants take pride in the looks of our little town. www.antiquesselma.com

Necker Knobs

I found this very large collection of “Necker Knobs” at AntiqueWish. This device was mounted on the automobile steering wheel. The knob which turns freely on a bearing would allow the driver to steer the car while hugging his date at the same time. This device was used in the forties and fifties. Power steering was not an option at that time.

The Masters Voice

I believe this is the Edison Cylinder Player. The cylinder came before the Victrola phonograph record. Don’t know where the dog is.

Is it a Telescope

I am not quite sure what this is. It looks like a telescope mounted on a very sturdy tripod. It has a leveling device mounted underneath

Tall Sunflower

A friend sent me an email and informed me of a tall sunflower in his neighbors yard.
You can see from the angle of the picture, this is a tall sunflower. I would say it stood about twelve feet tall.

August Theme Day --- Typical Breakfast

My typical breakfast consists of a small bagel with low fat cheese, cup of decaffeinated coffee, water to take my morning pills, shredded wheat with skimmed milk and a very delicious banana. You won’t see any eggs, sausage or bacon on my plate – I outgrew that a couple of years ago. Check out the headline on the paper. Garbage divides House, Senate.
