Neuse River
The mighty Neuse has been reduced from a raging river to a gentle flow by the drought that spread over North Carolina. As would be the case I had my 18 to 55 mm lines on my camera which I used to take this photo. The picture that I missed was the snakes and turtles that were sunning on the river bank and old tree limbs sticking out of the water.
Abe Lincoln would have had a field day with his powerful zoom lens on this photo op.

Sunday Morning 8
Hope you are not getting bored with my Sunday Morning series of photos. Hope you understand how hard it is to get a current daily photo when you are working with a town the size of Selma. It is not like Eric in Paris, France or Ham in London, England who definitely have an advantage on me. Not putting Selma down; I love my little town. We are having two events soon, The East Coast Antiques Show on Sept. 21 & 22 and the Selma Railroad Days on Oct. 6th.
Hope to get some fresh pictures for posting from those events.
This is a picture of the Big Red Caboose at Union Station. You can see the grain mill in the background. I believe the grain mill is the tallest structure in Selma.

Sunday Morning 6
The sun rises behind Railroad St. Antiques. This is a neat store; it was a dry goods and feed store before being renovated and turned into antiques. It encompasses about four buildings which makes for a very large area filled with antiques.

Sunday Morning 1
I have a picture that was taken of Selma, Raiford St. in 1910. I am trying to take a present day picture of the same location. Naturally, I want to get this picture of Raiford St. when a minimum number of cars line the street. Sunday morning is the perfect time to fulfill the no car requirement but the lighting conditions do not match that of the old picture. The west side of Raiford St. is well lit and the east side is in the shadows. I suspect the old picture was taken at high noon on a cloudy bright day.

Selma’s First Charter School
The new trailers are in place for the opening day of school. This is the location of the old Richard B. Harrison School, where my children went to school. Harrison was torn down when the new middle school was built. I am sure that the children will get a good education as my children did at this location. The ingredient for a good education is not a new building and no child left behind. It takes dedicated teachers, parental help, good attitudes and motivated children.
