Where the tracks cross.

This is where the railroad tracks cross in Selma. You can catch a train heading north, south and west, none going south unless you want to ride the coal train. We have passenger rail service in this country but not the high speed rail that you have in other parts of the world. Can you imagine a train going 200 miles per hour on this track.

Flowers and a rock.

Took this picture at my church today. The ground keepers do a super job with the flowers. Never heard the term “Watermelon Summers” before but if it means eat more watermelon I am all for that.

Three Flowers and a Bee.

I took this picture today. Got home and uploaded the files. Then I saw the bee in the middle of the flower. I think that is a worm in the lower right hand corner.

Mrs. Twisdale

I name this photo Mrs. Twisdale because that is where the original plant came from. About twenty years ago I started a daylily garden and went to Mrs Twisdale’s to purchase my original plants. I remember she was so concerned about the environment her plants were being transferred to. She gave me full details on how to plant and care for them. Years later I would stop by to take pictures of her daylilies and she and Mr. Twisdale would invite me to sit with them on the patio and drink ice tea. I have hundreds of daylily pictures in my archives that I took on these visits. Mrs Twisdale died last week at the age of 91. As I read the obituary I wondered how many daylily plants were separated and dug from her daylily field. Thanks for sharing your daylilies; your daylily pictures have been a thing of beauty and joy.

Watch your back side.

When you take pictures in the vicinity of a holly tree be careful when backing up. When I was taking pictures of the pumpkin I backed into this and got a thorn in the back of the head. All of these berries will be red at Christmas.

Crape Myrtle Week photo #8

Yes I know that a week is seven days, but I had one more picture to post. This is a close up of a white crape myrtle. The white crape myrtle is becoming very popular in this area, but I perefer the dark red – shows up better in the picture. This ends the Crape Myrtle Week. Hope we can do it again next year.

Crape Myrtle Week photo#5

The color of this tree caught my eye. It is located at the Selma Library.
“Crape myrtle is a flowering tree with multiple large, showy flower panicles in electric colors that sizzle across the branches-pink, purple, red-violet, and white. Crape myrtle is a broad-crowned deciduous tree that is variable in size, averaging about 20 to 25 feet, but potentially taller. Dwarf forms are also available.Often multistemmed, it has smooth, sculptured gray bark that gently exfoliates, showing multishaded underbark. Dappled shade allows for the growth of complementary ground covers beneath its leaf canopy. The petals are crinkled, like crepe paper, and appear recurrently July through September.” http://home.howstuffworks.com/define-crape-myrtle.htm

Theme Day – Iron

In 1967 Selma celebrated it’s centennial. This photo shows the town manager and the town council standing in front of the IRON Horse where the tracks cross looking for the golden spike. Rumor has it that the golden spike was never found and a can of gold paint was purchased from the local hardware store.
