Don't flame me! I'm a noob!!

Hello, I'm Lewis' son Robert. I'll be doing a few guest blogs because my father has been in the hospital. I was supposed to make this posting last week, but I'm afraid that I posted somewhere else. If anyone sees a stray blog floating around, it is probably mine!

Lewis had heart surgery earlier this week, and he is progressing nicely. We just got him from intensive care to a normal room today, and he is sitting up and doing fine. He should be returning home by early next week.

Even though we have internet access from his hospital room he is not going to feel like using the computer for a while. I'll try to drop by and leave a post every day, and I might even come up with something interesting to say before I'm done.

For today we have another picture taken from the new Clayton bypass. This is a basic barn that dots the landscape around these parts, although the only time we see these scenes is when we manage to cut a new road through old farmland.

Clayton Bypass

We took a trip on the Clayton bypass Sunday. The wife was driving and I was taking pictures with my old Olympus 2100 UZ camera. This camera is a 2 mega pixel, with image stabilization, and the ugliest camera in the world, but it takes a great picture.
This picture shows the rolling hills that make this such a scenic drive.

What kind of tree is it.

This tree is located in the parking lot at the police station. The leaves are always green, shed some in the late winter, but are quickly replenished. You can see by its shape that it has been pruned many times to keep it away from the power lines. I think that is what gives this tree it’s unique oblong shape. If you know what type of tree this is, please let us know.

Sun Spot

I was taking pictures last week of the fall foliage when I looked up and saw the sun shining through the limbs and leaves. I know that you are not supposed to shoot into the sun, but I just wanted to try it, just for fun. I took about eight shots at different angles. This is the best one of the lot. Most of the others were over exposed.

The Ice House

This is the old ice house where we used to go and get a block of ice. It closed down about ten years ago. It has been refurbished and is now used as a country theatre.

Empty Chairs

When I walk around the neighborhood, I see these empty chairs, just waiting for someone to sit and rest awhile.

Camellia 2

This is my white camellia bush. It started blooming last week. Not sure how long this one blooms but it looks good now. I love the deep green glossy leaves.

Camellia

This is my red camellia in the back yard. It has a long season, blooms from autumn into winter. I took this picture last week on a sunny hot day. Didn’t know the bees were out this time of year.

Mail Box for the season

I was walking around the block last week and took this picture. Some people in this area decorate their mail box for the season.

Veterans Day

I thought this picture would be appropriate for Veterans Day. It took me about ten minutes to get this picture, one of about thirty. I was waiting for the wind to cooperate.

The Crape Myrtle trees are in full color this year.

Autumn Colors 2

This is one of my favorite locations to take autumn photos. As you can see from this picture the trees did not disappoint me this year.

Autumn Colors

I took advantage of the bright orange evening sun and took some pictures of the autumn colors. The leaves are changing color very fast this year. Some of them are falling before reaching peak color.

End of the season.

This garden looks like it is about to hang it up for this growing season and get ready for winter.

Yes I Voted

Today was election day in the USA. Here in Selma, NC USA we got to vote for president, governor, congress, senator and as you can see lots of state and county candidates. The voting went very smooth, took about fifteen minutes. I did not get to stick my thumb in an ink bottle like you do in Iraq but I did get a sticker to place on my shirt showing others that I did my civic duty by voting. It was a great day.

Hydrangea

This cluster is hanging around. The leaves are starting to turn brown and some of the other clusters are long gone.

Dahlia

Some more holdouts that I found. This is a hardy dahlia just waiting for the first hard freeze.
